My pottery begins with the belief that human life is raised from the earth. Formed by sediment, mineral, and time, we continue to rely on what is drawn from the ground to sustain us. The vessel becomes a quiet mediator in this ongoing cycle — carrying what is extracted from the same terrain that formed us.
Made from clay taken directly from the earth, these pieces return material to its long-held role: to hold, carry, and support life. From early containers that gathered water or grain to the rituals of daily living today, vessels have quietly accompanied us through life’s moments — mundane or celebratory, marked by sorrow or joy.
The forms in this series are guided by geological presence rather than imposed geometry. Influenced by canyon walls, eroded rocks, and dry riverbeds, their weight, softness, and subtle asymmetry echo processes of weathering, sedimentation, and time. Surfaces are allowed to settle and pool through firing, resembling natural accumulation rather than decoration.
Functional yet grounded, these vessels speak to the continuity between human life and earthscape — reminding us that what carries and sustains life is still shaped from the same ground that once formed us.
